Case study for EBS

Excavator Bucket Services,

Hay Mills.

EBS (Excavator Bucket Services) of Hay Mills manufacture heavy duty excavator buckets for the building and construction market. Maurice McCourt, the current Managing Director, bought the company in 1987, and recently approached the Advanced Engineering Cluster for help in developing a strategic plan to grow the business in a balanced and profitable manner.

As part of the plan, the Cluster team identified the need to find a solution to bottlenecks in the production process. After further research, EBS invested in a new sheet steel Plasma Profile Cutter. The new, computerised CNC equipment provides 100% clean, accurate cutting of sheet steel up to 20 mm thickness at four times the previous cutting speed! “The new technology also means we save on steel, with minimum wastage. Operation is now much more environmentally-friendly,” says Maurice McCourt.

The new machinery has enabled EBS to accept additional, sub-contract work and turnover is now on target to rise by 20% this year, with the creation of six new jobs.

“The Advanced Engineering Cluster team are helping to develop future strategy for the EBS, including e-commerce”, continues Maurice McCourt. “As part of our plan for the future growth of the company, we’ve appreciated the team’s assistance in the identification and targeting of the most attractive and profitable market sectors for us.”
