Expresslock Ltd

Birmingham

Expresslock manufactures security equipment for commercial vehicles and its customers include national and international carriers. The company offers a comprehensive range of locking systems, from traditional mechanical slamlocks through to "no-key" powered electronic controllers using the latest technology to operate locks hands-free.

The Brief

Expresslock launched a unique slam-lock that could lock itself when closed. When fitted to the roller shutters of large box delivery vehicles, the device enabled the driver who needed to unload goods frequently and leave the vehicle unattended to make it secure quickly and easily. With incoming enquiries for the slamlock for fitment to new vehicles, the company needed a new, more compact design.

The Outcome

Using a process of design, evaluation and modification, manufacturing process selection and prototype development, the project team helped the company to redesign its slam-lock concept. The slam-lock family of products has been extended to include a smaller, more compact product that retains the snap-shut characteristics of the original and uses many of its parts.

Highlights

This support enabled Expresslock Ltd to develop new products in response to market demand and thus increase sales. Managing Director, Peter Adcock said that, as a result, the company “completed the financial year with sales 56% ahead of the previous year”.

Expresslock Ltd won the Lord Stafford Award for Achievement in Innovation 2003.
