Rebecca A. Withey (aka The Dancing Phoenix)

Over the years I have cultivated my performance style, technique and trained my socks off in order to get to where I am now as a dancer, actress, signsong performer and writer.

Seeking new experiences and challenges, I also hope that my work does its best to bridge the gap between the hearing and deaf communities - using sign language through song as that bridge. Sign song is on the rise and not only is it a brilliant way to learn to sign language but it is also a wonderful channel of expression for those whose preferred language is sign.

In 2005 I starred as Holly Parsons in BBC 1's Grange Hill and enjoyed acting for two years with them before moving on to new horizons. I then starred in two short films as well as leading a series of drama workshops for aspiring actors. I currently enjoy dabbling in film making both as an actress and as a writer/producer.

Upon graduating from University I soon formed a dance troupe of my own; RAWdance. We travelled across the UK choreographing, teaching and performing our own material in Liverpool, London, Birmingham and Chester. RAWdance's fire burnt out in early 2009 when I began teaching at several schools and choreographing simultaneously - a lesson well learnt in the art of balance!

I have travelled across the UK to work with and for marvellously creative dance companies, musical groups, film makers, theatres, drama groups, community centres, schools as well as individuals and organisations.
